Building an Azure platform that product teams could operate
A cloud foundation for modernising .NET and Node.js workloads.
Problem
Outdated infrastructure and hosting practices were limiting the organisation's ability to modernise applications and deliver change consistently.
Contribution
As Head of Cloud Platform, I led the design of an AKS-based Azure platform, hub-and-spoke networking, private connectivity and DNS integration. I shaped CI/CD for legacy and modern .NET and Node.js workloads, and introduced observability, policy and security capabilities around the platform.
Outcome
The organisation gained a modern cloud foundation and a clearer migration and delivery path, with platform responsibilities made more repeatable and easier for engineering teams to understand.
The problem
The existing estate combined ageing hosting with a mix of application generations. Modernisation needed to address compute, networking, security, observability and delivery as a connected platform problem.
My contribution
I designed and led the new Azure platform, including AKS, hub-and-spoke networking, access to private endpoints from the corporate network, and DNS resolution across Azure and on-premises environments. I also shaped CI/CD for .NET Framework, modern .NET and Node.js workloads, with an emphasis on reducing delivery complexity.
The outcome
Product teams had a more consistent foundation for moving workloads to Azure. The platform made security, connectivity, observability and release practices explicit rather than leaving each application team to solve them independently.
